The People We've Watched Grow Up

There are some things you only get to experience when you've been part of a community for a long time.

One day a little kid is ordering pancakes with a smiley face made out of whipped cream.
A few years later they're asking if they can order for themselves.
Next thing you know, they're graduating high school.
Then they stop in after work.
And before you know it...
They're walking through the door carrying a baby of their own.
Sometimes we don't even recognize them at first.
Until they smile.
Then it clicks.
"Wait... weren't you just this tall?"
Time has a funny way of doing that.
More Than Regular Customers
People use the word "regulars" all the time.
But after enough years, that word doesn't really fit anymore.
Because regulars become part of your life.
You start recognizing their vehicles before they even pull into the parking lot.
You already know who's going to ask for extra salsa.
You know who's "just getting coffee" until somebody orders pancakes and suddenly the whole table is eating.
Those little things don't happen overnight.
They happen after years of seeing the same faces.
Through first jobs.
Graduations.
New homes.
New babies.
Grandparents bringing grandchildren to the very same booth where they once brought their own kids.
Life keeps moving.
Somehow breakfast stays part of it.
Through the Good Days... and the Hard Ones
Restaurants get to see people during some of the happiest moments of their lives.
Graduations.
Family visiting from out of town.
A new job.
Old friends catching up after years apart.
But we're also there during the quieter seasons.
After funerals.
During difficult conversations.
When somebody just needs to get out of the house for an hour and drink a cup of coffee.
Sometimes the best hospitality isn't saying much at all.
It's just keeping the coffee warm, making sure breakfast comes out right, and letting people stay as long as they need.
The Ones Who Move Away
Every once in a while we'll get a message from someone who moved across the country years ago.
They'll tell us they still think about the tacos.
Or the salsa.
Or the chilaquiles.
But if you keep reading...
It usually isn't really about the food.
It's about stopping in with Grandma after a doctor's appointment.
Saturday mornings before soccer games.
Meeting up after getting braces tightened because tacos somehow made everything better.
The food is what brings the memory back.
The people are what made it worth remembering.
Those messages remind us that while we're busy trying to keep up with the breakfast rush, somebody else might be making a memory they'll carry for years.
That's a pretty humbling thing.
That's Why We Still Love Doing This
People ask us sometimes how we've been here so long.
The truth is...
It isn't because we make breakfast.
It's because, over the years, breakfast became part of people's stories.
And somehow...
They became part of ours too.
We don't take that lightly.
Every family that walks through our doors is trusting us with a tiny piece of their day.
Sometimes they forget about it.
Sometimes they remember it twenty years later.
Either way...
We're grateful we got to be there.
We'll Save You a Seat
Whether you've been coming here for twenty years...
Or tomorrow is your very first visit...
Pull up a chair.
Order another cup of coffee.
Tell us what's new.
We'd love to be a small part of your story too.
