Street Tacos, a 6–0 Win, and a Good Night With the Cavs

Yes, I was having fun. My face just hadn’t received the update yet.
😂Some nights you pull the food trailer home tired.
Other nights you pull it home tired, smelling like grilled steak, with sore feet, a messy kitchen, and the feeling that it was completely worth it.
This was one of those nights.
We brought the Eggs & Salsa food trailer out to Canterbury for an evening of school sports, families, food, and a chance to help support Cavalier Athletics.
And once everything got moving, it turned into exactly the kind of night we love being part of.
It Always Starts Quiet
Food trailer events have this funny little window before everything starts.
The trailer is parked.
The generator is running.
The grill is heating.
Salsas are where they need to be.
You're checking the same things for the third time even though you already know you checked them.
Then somebody walks up.
Then another family.
Then suddenly there are tickets hanging and nobody remembers when the quiet part ended.
That's usually how it goes.
Then Came the Street Tacos
We brought a mix of food that night, but the street steak tacos started moving.
And kept moving.
Warm tortillas.
Steak off the grill.
Onion.
Cilantro.
Lime.
Salsa.
Simple food, but when all of it comes together right, you really don't need to complicate things.
Somewhere between taco number who-knows-what, somebody asking for more salsa, and trying to figure out what was happening in the games through the food trailer window, we realized we were having a pretty good night.
Busy.
But that's good. If somebody had taken a picture of me right then... actually, somebody did. Exhibit A above.
Trying to Work and Follow the Games at the Same Time
This is the interesting part about serving food at a school sporting event.
You're technically there working.
But everything is happening around you.
You hear people cheering while you're making tacos.
Someone walks up and gives you an update on the score.
A kid comes through for food and disappears right back toward the field.
Parents are talking about the game while they wait.
And eventually you start trying to follow along too, even though you've spent most of the night staring at a griddle.
The girls soccer team ended the night with a 6–0 win.
Six to zero.
Not a bad evening to be wearing Cavalier colors.
This Was Bigger Than Selling Tacos
The reason we wanted to be there in the first place was to support the student-athletes.
The evening gave us a chance to bring out the trailer, feed families, be part of the atmosphere, and help raise money for Cavalier Athletics at the same time.
That's the kind of partnership we enjoy.
Nothing complicated.
Show up.
Make good food.
Take care of people.
Help where you can.
And hopefully leave something behind that matters a little more than an empty taco tray.
The Community Made the Night
The food is obviously what we bring.
But events like this work because people show up.
Families came through.
Students came through.
People stopped to talk.
There was school spirit everywhere.
And there is something fun about serving food in the middle of all of it.
A restaurant usually asks people to come into our world.
The food trailer lets us go into theirs.
That is one of the things we like most about it.
We get to take our kitchen somewhere else for a few hours and become part of whatever is already happening there.
Then Comes the Part Nobody Posts
Eventually the games end.
People head home.
And the food trailer suddenly gets very quiet again.
Except now you have to clean it.
The grill that looked great three hours earlier definitely does not look great anymore.
There are containers everywhere.
The floor needs attention.
Your feet are reminding you that you've been standing all night.
And somehow packing everything back up always takes longer than setting it up.
That's the glamorous food trailer life.
But even while you're cleaning, you start replaying the night.
The crowd.
The tacos.
The conversations.
The win.
And you think:
Yeah.
We'd do that again.
Thanks for Having Us, Cavs
A big thank-you to the Cavalier Staff who helped make the evening happen.
And thank you to every family, student, and supporter who stopped by the trailer.
You ate a lot of tacos.
We appreciate that.
More importantly, you helped make it a fun night supporting the students who were out there competing.
We were happy to play our small part.
Street tacos.
A packed trailer.
A 6–0 win.
Not a bad night at all.
Let's go Cavs!
